Prokin Life Ingredient Spotlight: Understanding Sucralose

At Prokin Foods, we are committed to transparency about what goes into our products. We want you to feel confident that every ingredient serves a purpose in supporting your fitness and health goals.

We occasionally get questions about sucralose, the sweetener used to give our Prokin Life Whey Protein range its delicious taste without the added sugar. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sucralose

What exactly is sucralose? Sucralose is a zero-calorie, high-intensity sweetener. Interestingly, it is actually made from sugar (sucrose) through a process that changes its chemical structure. This change means your body does not recognise it as a carbohydrate and it passes through the body virtually unchanged, providing sweetness without the calories.

Why does Prokin use sucralose instead of regular sugar? Our goal with the Prokin Life range is to provide you with premium, high-quality protein to support muscle recovery and satiety, without loading you up on "empty" calories.

Sugar adds significant calories and can spike blood glucose levels, which can work against many fitness and weight management goals. Because sucralose is roughly 600 times sweeter than sugar, we only need to use a tiny amount to achieve a great taste, keeping the carbohydrate and calorie count of your shake very low.

Is sucralose safe to consume daily? Yes. Sucralose is one of the most extensively tested food ingredients in the world. Over the past 20+ years, hundreds of scientific studies have reviewed its safety.

It has been approved for use by major global regulatory bodies, including:

  • FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand)

  • The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)

  • The EFSA (European Food Safety Authority)

These organisations have established an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) for sucralose, which is the amount considered safe to consume every day over a lifetime. The amount of sucralose found in a serving of Prokin Life is a very small fraction of this daily limit.

Will sucralose spike my insulin or blood sugar? No. Because your body does not metabolise sucralose as energy, it is considered non-glycemic. It does not raise blood glucose levels or trigger an insulin response, making it a suitable option for those tracking macros, following low-carb or ketogenic diets, or managing diabetes.

I’ve read conflicting headlines about artificial sweeteners. Should I be worried? We know there is a lot of conflicting information online. It is important to note that many studies showing potential negative effects often use extremely high dosages of sweeteners—far beyond what a human could realistically consume in a day through food or supplements—or are conducted on animals with different metabolisms than humans.

The current consensus among major international food safety authorities remains that sucralose is safe for general consumption at current permitted levels.

The Prokin Promise We use sucralose minimally—just enough to make your post-workout shake enjoyable, so you look forward to your nutrition routine. If you have specific dietary concerns or sensitivities, we always recommend consulting with a healthcare professional.
